Bunchberry leaves turning red here is Fairbanks

Well, it’s September, and I guess I have to admit that Fall is here, at least in Fairbanks. Two weeks ago I wrote that the highbush cranberry leaves were starting to turn colors, now the ground dogwood (bunchberry) is turning color.

I found a large patch on a south-facing hill north of town, and as you can see, the leaves are turning deep red. Even I, who am partially colorblind to red and green, can see these colors. ( I did check with my son to make sure I was seeing the colors at least somewhat accurately.)
